Happy Monday All!
So basically the last month or so can be summed up by this:
Mum life, work life, blogger life, trying to get winged eyeliner life; everything is constantly changing, challenging, hectic. Surprises are constantly thrown your way, and they aren’t always the lovely flowers in the post kind of surprises. Babies in particular, are huge fans of sporadically moving the goalposts; you think you’ve got it sussed then all of a sudden they throw everything up in the air and it’s back to square one.
One positive way to look at this is that motherhood is just one constant life lesson. It never stops; as soon as you get those two lines on the pregnancy test you’re a mother and you’re learning new things every day. Learning about yourself; how far you can be pushed and how patient you are, how strong you are, how bloody brilliant you are as a Mum and a woman. Sometimes it’s learning that you have a limit. And of course it’s learning how to look after a baby; how to soothe them, feed them, settle them, make them smile, and how to deal with copious amounts of poo.
Throw this into the mix with all the usual life lessons; love, relationships, broken hearts, career decisions, feuding families, friendships, not blowing this months wage on that pair of shoes, learning how to walk in said pair of shoes; Life can become one ongoing whirlwind.
One thing I’ve learnt about myself since becoming a Mum is that I have to take things at my own pace. I can’t rush. I have to have things done one step at a time. Things get done, they just might take a little longer than anticipated sometimes! You can’t always do the 50 things you want to in a day, especially when unexpected surprises such as a teething baby, a broken washing machine, and that dentist appointment you forgot about crop up at a moments notice.
Sometimes amongst all the chaos you can find something beautiful in every day. Yes your screaming baby may be driving you absolutely insane but when they smile at you all that frustration melts away. Yes it sucks when you’re up at 5.45am but doesn’t that sunrise look pretty. Yes going for yet another walk round the shops is the only way to settle your bub but hey, at least you can admire those beautiful shoes that’ll pinch your feet (oh go on, treat yourself – I know I’m a bad influence but I’m also a huge advocate that life is short)!
Find the positives amongst all the chaos and you’ll find each hectic day that little bit brighter.
Have a good week.
