  • Skinfix Skin Care Review

    Hi Everyone,

I was quite frankly bloody thrilled the other day to receive a package from the lovely people over at Skinfix.

I hadn’t heard of the company before but they are a Canadian company who have recently launched over here in the UK. They pride themselves on their company values:

Our remedies were born from a century old family recipe, passed down from British Pharmacopeia. We provide the ultimate skin fix for the most vexing skin irritations from head to toe. Skinfix products are clinically proven and made from natural ingredients that work to quickly prevent and soothe skin problems like eczema, diaper rash, chafing and cracked skin caused by poor circulation. Nothing is too red, too itchy, too ouchy, too difficult, too delicate, too young or too old nor too private for us! Our award-winning products work, often when nothing else has.

Their latest venture has been into Baby skincare and given that Josh has had a bit of sensitive skin in recent months so this came at the perfect time for us to try something new to relieve some of his irritation. As much as I love that baby smell that comes with so many well-known brands of baby skin and bath care, they are perfumed and it just seems to add to the problem. And there is the added reassurance that the entire line is “nut-free” in terms of ingredients, so there is no need to be concerned in terms of tree nut and peanut allergies.  I have to say I was thrilled to be using products made from natural ingredients. And I wasn’t at all disappointed.

We were sent four products in total: Gentle Hair & Body Wash, Gentle Eczema Balm, Gentle Body Lotion, and the all-important Nappy balm. I literally couldn’t wait to start trying these products. The body and hair wash promised to be tear free, always a bonus as I can’t be the only one to have a child who insists upon rubbing their eyes with bath lather and bubbles! I was also really glad the products were perfume free and had no scent; as much it is lovely to have scents, I didn’t want anything else irritating the babies skin!

The 2 in 1 Hair and Body wash was an absolute winner; I can’t believe how big the bottle was and you only have to use a small amount so that was good. It was so handy to be able to wash Josh’s hair and then wash his body with the same product. Now that he’s at an age where even a nice relaxing bath before bed is a battle as he wants to play with (or eat!) everything, so to have a product that made the process quicker and easier was much appreciated.  The wash lathered up really nicely and got baby boy nice and clean with adorable cute curly and soft hair without any over bearing smell (and no sign of any scalp irritation thank goodness – Josh was really prone to this in the early days).

As I’ve already said, now that Josh is older any relaxing wind down massage time after a bath is well out of the window! So rather than the old days of tackling a wriggly baby with slippery massage oil, I was so glad to try out the Baby Gentle Lotion. I officially love this stuff! Again, a little goes a long way, and it absorbed nice and quickly. Josh had some areas of skin that felt quite rough which I concentrated on and literally within a couple of days his skin was feeling so much softer! The lotion is packed with natural ingredients and contains colloidal oatmeal and emollient oils which soothe dry and sensitive skin which was ideal for Josh.

Next we used the Baby Gentle Eczema Balm. Josh has some patches of dry skin that are worse than others. I hate seeing them and that Mummy guilt creeps in as I worry about it hurting him, although in fairness I never see him try to itch at the patches. But I used the balm specifically on these areas, and quite frankly, Oh My God! It was a miracle worker and literally within two days the sore red patches cleared up. The worst areas for his dry skin are in his little fat folds (what can I say, he’s a chunky monkey) and I noticed it behind his knees quite a lot. But just using this for a couple of days and things cleared up – it’s literally my miracle product and whenever any other areas have flared up I’ve put this on it and it’s done the trick! I am literally amazed at how good it is. Skinfix describe the product as “concentrated healing balm which provides targeted therapy, creating a barrier to protect dry, red, itchy and irritated skin” and it really does what it says on the tin (or the tube)!!! Out of the four products we received, bearing in mind they are all fantastic, this is my stand out item.

The fourth product we were given to test was the nappy balm. Josh has been super lucky when it comes to nappy rash and avoided it until the last month or so when teething has kicked in with a gusto along with many foul dirty nappies resulting in the poor little monkey having a sore, red bum! So I was happy to give this a try. It’s quite a surprising colour when it comes out the tube; like a grey, clay like colour and texture. But again it doesn’t disappoint. I have only been using this once a day, after monkeys bath, and it’s doing the job at preventing any major nappy rash and soothing his bum when there is redness.

So you could say, we LOVE these products. I know there are many mainstream products us Mummys would never normally stray from, but I can honestly say (and no, not just because I’m doing a review) I will be using Skinfix in the future. In particular, the Eczema balm has been just amazing! I can’t recommend these products enough and given that they are all natural, they give us Mums (and Dads) peace of mind when using them on our babies skin.

Boots are the main stockist for Skinfix here in the UK and is very reasonably priced starting from £6.99, and you can also check out their website http://skinfixinc.com/home/ to explore the many products they offer.

Disclaimer: I received the Skinfix Baby Gentle set of products for the purpose of this review. However, all opinions expressed in this review are my own personal opinions from our experience of using the products.
